Scamark partners with Carbon Maps to launch Carbon’Info, a carbon impact indicator for 6,000 E.Leclerc private label food products.

Paris, April 24, 2025 – Scamark, the organization responsible for developing and marketing private label products for the E.Leclerc retail chain, is launching its carbon impact indicator: Carbon’Info. Developed in collaboration with Carbon Maps—whose mission is to support food industry players in calculating their environmental footprint—this indicator is now available for all 6,000 E.Leclerc private label food products, accessible via the E.Leclerc website and drive-through service.

As food accounts for nearly a quarter of a French person’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions—on par with housing—better consumer information has become a key issue in the fight against climate change.

As part of its "Savoir Achat" (“Informed Buying”) initiative, E.Leclerc created Carbon’Info based on the expertise of Carbon Maps. This indicator, which applies to all 6,000 products under the brands Marque Repère, Eco+, and Nos Régions ont du Talent (available online), allows consumers to better understand the environmental impact of their food through clear and transparent information.

Specifically, the indicator reveals the quantity of GHG emissions produced per kilogram of product (net weight). Just like the price per kilo, Carbon’Info allows for comparison between products: the higher the Carbon’Info, the greater the GHG emissions for 1 kilogram of the product.

All stages of the product's life cycle are taken into account in this score: from agricultural raw material production, transportation, and processing to distribution and consumption. The calculation also includes packaging and, in the case of processed foods, the ingredients used. The methodology aligns with ADEME recommendations and relies on public databases, such as AGRIBALYSE®—France’s most comprehensive public database of environmental indicators for agricultural and food products.

Carbon’Info gives consumers clear and transparent information on the carbon impact of our private label products. It is a natural extension of our Savoir d'Achat approach and marks a major milestone for E.Leclerc. Relying on an independent expert like Carbon Maps ensures both the objectivity and rigor of the calculation method. Finally, Carbon Maps enables us to meet the challenge of processing vast amounts of data: Carbon’Info is now calculated and available for all 6,000 of our food products under the Marque Repère, Eco+, and Nos Régions ont du Talent brands.”

— Fabrice Hersent, E.Leclerc Affiliate in St Junien – President of E.Leclerc Private Label Food Products

Carbon’Info is the culmination of our work with Scamark, and aligns with what the E.Leclerc Movement has always stood for: empowering consumers to make fully informed choices. At Carbon Maps, we are thrilled to have played an active role in a project of this scale, which will deliver real, daily positive impact.”

— Patrick Asdaghi, CEO and Co-founder of Carbon Maps
